BACKROAD, CT

Unlike a deadline for a job, filling up my sketchbook is pure serendipity.  This sketch came about from visiting the Rembrandt drawing exhibit at the BRUCE MUSEUM. I was drawn to a drawing by Pieter de With(after 1689) Wooded Landscape with a Cottage. He studied with Rembrandt in the early 1650. His detailed treatment of the trees & cottage are characteristic of the artist. On the same afternoon, there was road work on Round Hill Rd, my detour took me pass this very quaint property. The relationship between tree & house is similar to what I saw at the exhibit.
