Winter Wonderland with Pigments

I can design a winter collection anytime. But nothing beats a foot of snow to inspire me to focus on the wonder of the season.

Quinacridone Red is one of my favorite red. It takes an extra step, but sometimes I like the process of making my own paints. This Quinacridone Red Pigment  gives me this beautiful luminosity, that a tube of paint cant give me.

HOLIDAY DESIGN

A bit of everything with this new holiday design: classic New England winter sketch, swirly vines from nature against a tight rendering of winter holly, adding the scripture gives me an excuse to play with different fonts on photoshop.

SNOWY PINE & HOUSE

New year, new storm! Taking a painting break from shoveling all this snow. This is a good excuse to just load up my brush with thick white paints.

LINGERING SNOW

One of the perks of painting for so many years is that we are in the habit of looking at everything thru a painter's eye. To have the unusual opportunity to spend time in TUXEDO PARK in 2010 inspire me to fill a whole sketchbook> asketchaday-tuxedopark...years later, the area can still inspire me to get my sketchbook out, on a bleak morning. This is a study in vertical & horizontal.

STORMY EVENING

Winter colors straight from my pastel set. No commercial value, just training my artist's eye & hand.

WINTER PINES

With a bit of snow, the bleak winter landscape turns into a lovely winter landscape painting... with just a few colors.

SNOWSCAPE

Despite all the development over the years, Greenwich remains very scenic. Nothing like a bit of snow to make the bare trees picturesque.

SNOWDAY

This has not been a winter for painting snowscape in Connecticut. We finally got some snow over the weekend...better get it on paper before the snow melts away!
