Winter Wonderland with Pigments

I can design a winter collection anytime. But nothing beats a foot of snow to inspire me to focus on the wonder of the season.

Quinacridone Red is one of my favorite red. It takes an extra step, but sometimes I like the process of making my own paints. This Quinacridone Red Pigment  gives me this beautiful luminosity, that a tube of paint cant give me.

WINTER BIRDS

All the rain last week kept the birds away from the feeder. They are back, with the snow. All puffed up.

Despite the cold, one can still appreciate a really beautiful sunset…from a cozy spot.

SWIRLS & DOODLES

Less ramblings these days. There's something therapeutic about doodling. This started out as just lots of swirls with my lovely gold paints. Some greens to balance it out. Before I know it, there's a pair of birds & a country snowscape. You never know where doodles can take you...

WINTER LIGHT

Been playing with my palette to show the transient effects of changing light upon a particular motif. The winter pines really stand out in the fresh snow.

LINGERING SNOW

One of the perks of painting for so many years is that we are in the habit of looking at everything thru a painter's eye. To have the unusual opportunity to spend time in TUXEDO PARK in 2010 inspire me to fill a whole sketchbook> asketchaday-tuxedopark...years later, the area can still inspire me to get my sketchbook out, on a bleak morning. This is a study in vertical & horizontal.

RAIN CLOUDS

Rubbed in this shade of blue & mauve to describe perfectly a menacing dark rain cloud. Well, thank goodness it's not snow clouds. Connecticut is still digging out from our major storm over the weekend.
