BUCOLIC BEAUTY

Another attempt to sketch the intangible. Delighting in what i can do with just paper, graphite & kneaded eraser.

Due to the light, the scene changes every hour. Sometimes one needs to bring on some colors to emphasis the mood.

Just a few strokes of green & blues does the trick to convey a soft afternoon along the Connecticut River. Do click on link to see more images.

AUDUBON SHARON

Audubon Sharon, CT...the center has over 1,000 acres of forestland with many miles of trials & 2 ponds. A gorgeous Cottage garden & the aviary is always fun with birds of prey.

It's a rehabilitation clinic for injured wildlife. A good opportunity to spend some time with an owl. One can get up close & personal with an eagle!

TIMELESS CONNECTICUT RIVER SKETCH

Timeless quality of a beautiful location, thru the use of lights & darks. By squinting, it's easy to see the contrasting shapes.

Once again, I prefer to start off with charcoal tone paper.

My kneaded eraser gives me the lights of the sky & river. I finish the sketch with a dark charcoal which define the shadows of the marsh & tree.

LYME ART COLONY

Florene Griswold Museum sits by the bucolic Connecticut River. It's the famed home of the Lyme Art Colony. House & garden inspired a generation of artist.

I'm so familiar with the area, that finding a pretty spot by the water to paint was pretty easy.

HAMMONASSET BEACH

It's unusual on the East Coast to be able to watch the sun set into the sea, but HAMMONASSET BEACH, CT is angled in just the right way for awesome sunsets. Click on link for some wonderful images of this state park.

SUMMER MORNING

Aside from plenty of peace & quiet, 7 AM at the beach is a great time to hang out with the egrets. This new born is about half the size of the parent.

CHARMING TOWNS

NOANK remains one of my favorite town in Connecticut. The town is off the beaten track, with many charming homes on the water. It's always worth a cruise, to have lobster on the water at Abbotts.

RAIN CLOUDS

Rubbed in this shade of blue & mauve to describe perfectly a menacing dark rain cloud. Well, thank goodness it's not snow clouds. Connecticut is still digging out from our major storm over the weekend.

WHITE FLOWER FARM

A perfect fall day for a ride thru the backroads of Connecticut. What better destination than WHITE FLOWER FARM, just in time for an amazing display of fall Dahlia. Their demonstration border is truly award winning.

LILAC SKETCH

Lunch under the LILAC tree, at the end of April. The beauty of the experience finds their way into the painting.

APPLE BLOSSOM

Watercolor seems to be my favorite medium when I'm  doing botanical study... maybe one day I will do a book on the flowers of Connecticut.
